Tour d'ITWhat role does information and communication technology (IT) play in the development of products and services? Which strategic technological choices must be made in developing e-business initiatives? How can (internal) IT departments optimally collaborate with operational business departments?
A tour of IT innovations and business applicationsThese are frequently asked questions within organizations involved in the development and improvement of products and services. The pressure to innovate is constantly increasing: e-Business is growing, customers are becoming increasingly discerning, time-to-market is becoming shorter and the life cycle of products is becoming shorter. The rapid developments in IT offer many new opportunities.
Making effective use of these developments increasingly determines the success of a company. Speed is not the only factor in this context. The quality of the collaboration between IT departments and operational business departments is crucial. |
 The Tour d'IT offers you a unique overview of IT innovations and their business applications. It was developed in 1998 by DNV academy - CIBIT. The first participants included a large group of employees from Fortis Nederland and CMG Finance. Since the autumn of 1999 the first Tour with open enrollment started. Over a period of ten months the programme acquaints you with topical subjects in the field of IT, as well as with a diverse group of participants who all share the ambition to take on the challenge of developing the best IT trajectory for their organization.
Will you take up the challenge?New technologies, changing customer expectations and rapidly developing e-business competition. Your organization is faced with the challenge to set a course in these turbulent times. A course in which the co-ordination between your organization’s IT and business occupies a central position. In order to better tailor new products and services to the needs of customers; to be able to do business in a new way; to make the right technology choices and to be aware of the consequences this has for the organization and its employees. What does this mean for your role? Will this change as well? Which choices will you make? To what extent will you determine the course? Do you have a full overview of the IT landscape facing you?
The Tour d'IT offers you the opportunity to become acquainted with new, topical subjects and technologies in the field of IT. You will learn how to apply these technologies within your own organization. It focuses on your personal professionalisation and fully reflects the latest insights.What is the Tour d'IT?The programme consists of a broad and many-sided trajectory. It is very innovative, both as to the subjects discussed, and as to its form and organisational setup. In 10 sessions held in the evening and spread over 1 year, topical IT subjects, trends and visions will be covered. The participants can count on a heavy dose of innovative IT, always focused on its practical application within the specific organisation.
The combination of transferring knowledge and actively sharing knowledge and experience by the participants, gives the Tour d'IT its unique character. Experienced DNV-CIBIT consultants and guest speakers give plenary presentations. The participants work in smaller groups under the supervision of a DNV-CIBIT consultant. |
|
 The new monthly topic starts with two plenary presentations and the workshop. In the weeks following the meeting, 24x7 is the place where the participants meet one another.
Transfer of knowledge
The two presentations during the meeting and the 24x7 library provide you with a substantial in-depth grasp of the material and a realistic idea of the applications.
The first presentation focuses on the intrinsic aspects of a specific subject, illustrated with examples drawn from the speaker's experience. The second presentation centers on specific projects already executed. People involved in the projects share their experiences. In this context much attention is paid to pitfalls, lessons learned and do's & don'ts. In 24x7 digital library you will find Internet-links, literature and reading suggestions for further in-depth information on the relevant theme.
Sharing knowledge and experience
An important component of the Tour d'IT is sharing knowledge and experiences with other participants. The workshop and 24x7 provide you with an opportunity to meet (and remain in contact with) other participants in an easy and informal way. In the workshop in the course of the meeting you will work in smaller groups, focusing on the topic of the evening. In separate small groups you will further investigate the subjects, share experiences and prepare questions for the panel discussion at the end of the evening. During this part of the evening DNV-CIBIT consultants will act as facilitators by supervising the groups and answering questions.
Individual professionalisationThe Tour d'IT offers you the opportunity to shape your own professional development within the framework of the programme. The extensive experience DNV-CIBIT has acquired with Knowledge Management projects is reflected in the setup and organization of the Tour. The ingredients are:- the wide diversity of the participants' backgrounds;
- the different working methods used in the course of the evening sessions;
- the virtual support via the Tour Intranet in the period between the evening sessions.

 Training trajectoryWell-prepared, efficient presentations by seasoned professionals, literature and references on 24x7 and an extensive reader with background information and articles on each subject. Together the above provide the solid foundation on which the Tour d'IT rests.
For further deepening of understanding of a specific theme the Tour provides the following working methods and facilities:- group assignments in which the participants co-operate via 24x7;
- possibilities to pose questions to DNV-CIBIT consultants;
- the library on the Tour Intranet with background information, literature references,
reading suggestions, articles and references to relevant Internet sites.
The Tour d'IT as a meeting placeThe target group of the Tour d'IT is very diverse. Participants come from various sectors within the service industry and the business community. They represent a wide range of functions within their organization. Together with your co-participants you have a unique wealth of knowledge and experience. Through the evening sessions and the Intranet you can share this wealth with one another. It gives you a unique opportunity to experience how others view your situation. Or how they handle similar problems. In this context you must not underestimate the value of your own contribution: sharing knowledge is often just as rewarding to the 'storyteller' as to the 'listener'. |
