To share is to multiply

In many large, multi-party, research projects the collective knowledge and competencies of the researchers involved in the projects are not leveraged to the extent they could. Duplication of research effort and suboptimal mobilisation of brainpower are unwelcome effects of this.

With regard to learning from other projects and sharing of lessons learnt, there is often no time and attention for these aspects in projects, due to tight deadlines and strict choices in terms of research directions.

The necessity of leveraging knowledge
In order to improve this situation for the ‘IT for Learning and Training in Industry’ (LTI ) projects, the EC has chosen to establish a knowledge and learning infrastructure (KALIF): a set of mechanisms to support leveraging of knowledge between the participating projects. It believes that real knowledge leveraging improvements generated by KALIF can only be attained by incorporating KALIF aspects into the funded projects right from the start of project work.
